Lava and Birthday Cake!

Working Saturday afternoon in Casa Jackson, the babies project, we returned home to enjoy the Birthday of Marcos the youngest member of our host family. Great to see Guatemalan tradition.

Ana and Danny with children Alexandria and Marcos.

On Sunday we were up early to climb Volcan Pacaya. Not overly challenging, less the last 20 minutes over fresh lava that dries like needles to shred your boots and cut your hands! Worth it to see lava so close. Quite mesmerising to be walking on inch thick fresh crust that you can see glowing beneath you and getting to within 1m of the flow! Any closer and it actually hurt, not sure of the temperature but we made damn sure we didn’t find out!

Finally, we enjoyed lunch with the Family at Pollo Camero, a treat for them from typical food!
